Farm to Fortune Best Crops: What to Plant First

The farm to fortune best crops ranked by real in-game value. Which of the 18 crops pay off fastest, which fruit trees earn the most, and what to plant when.

Quick Answer

Early on, grass and carrot are your fastest turnaround. By mid-game, strawberry, tomato, and sweetcorn deliver strong coin-per-tile returns. In the late game, pumpkin and watermelon top the market, and fruit trees (apple, cherry, pear, lemon) become the best passive income per tile once planted.

Every crop the game names

Farm to Fortune tracks 18 ground crops plus four fruit trees. The ground crops are: grass, carrot, strawberry, onion, beetroot, tomato, cabbage, potato, broccoli, sweetcorn, lettuce, cucumber, eggplant, chili, squash, bell pepper, pumpkin, and watermelon. The fruit trees are: apple, cherry, pear, and lemon.

What the market shows

The in-game market panel lists storage counts and for-sale totals. A late-game screenshot from the real game shows Pumpkin selling for 156,042 coins, Eggplant for 51,359, and Sweetcorn for 32,433 in a single session. Strawberry sits at the low end at 1,836, which is why strawberries are a starter crop rather than a money-maker.

The pattern is clear: crops that take longer to grow sell for more per unit. Pumpkin and watermelon are the highest-value single-tile harvests; grass and carrot grow quickly and keep coins flowing between big harvests.

Planting order by phase

  • Day 1-3: grass and carrot. Both mature fast and fund your first watering-can and shop upgrades.
  • Week 1: add strawberry and onion. Strawberry blooms in about three days; onion pays more per tile.
  • Week 2-3: move into tomato, cabbage, and potato. These fill out your plots while you save for the seeder machine.
  • Week 4+: sweetcorn, broccoli, and cucumber. Sweetcorn has one of the best coin-per-tile ratios in the game.
  • Late game: eggplant, chili, squash, bell pepper, pumpkin, and watermelon. Plant pumpkins in bulk for the biggest single payouts.
  • Any time you have spare land: fruit trees. They cost more upfront but keep producing every week without replanting.

Combos that boost yields

The game rewards Three Sisters (planting beans alongside corn and squash) with a growth bonus. Composted ground grows crops faster, so running a compost bin alongside your fields compounds your returns. The greenhouse grows any crop at 0.5x speed regardless of season, making it ideal for high-value plants like pumpkin in the off-season.

Rule of thumb

If you need coins today, plant fast crops. If you need coins this month, plant trees and pumpkins. Diversify so a bad week does not wipe you out.
